Final Paper for HUM 3143
From the syllabus: In lieu of a final exam, students will turn in a final paper on a topic selected by the student, from a list provided by the instructor, by the last day of the Spring semester (May 12). The paper should be between 8 and 10 pages in length, double-spaced, and should include at least eight scholarly sources.
Possible topics (note that these are broad categories, and students will need to narrow their focus in their papers):
- Topic 1: Christianity and science

- Christianity and the Big Bang
- Christian approaches to gender identity issues
- Topic 2: Christianity and the arts
examples:
- Is there a Christian aesthetic?
- The use of Christian symbolism in art
- A survey of the representation of women in Christian art, 14th - 19th centuries
- Topic 3: Christian ethics and politics
examples:
- Christian ethics and global migration
- Genome splicing and designer babies: Christian attitudes
- Eschatogical models and their impact on U.S. politics
- Topic 4: Christianity and other religions
examples:
- A survey of Christian efforts at interfaith dialog
- A comparison of Christian and Buddhist approaches to meditation
- Christian antisemitism in the first four centuries
- Topic 5: The future of Christianity
examples:
- Christianity and the possibiity of sentient alien life
- Christianity in the year 2500
- Is a non-theistic Christianity possible?
