HUM 3223: Group Assignments and Presentations

Group Assignments and Presentation Schedule

YOUR PARTICIPATION AS PART OF YOUR ASSIGNED GROUP IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF YOUR FINAL GRADE!

Instructions for Group Presentations 1-3

Each group has been assigned three approaches to reading the Bible. Choose a biblical passage for each of the assigned approaches, and send an email to the instructor indicating the literary approach and the biblical passage you have chosen for that approach. Emails are due no later than the Saturday before the day the presentation is due.

The presentation should consist of a PowerPoint presentation (or some similar visual or audiovisual tool), in addition to a presentation in class by members of the group. All group members who participate in research, preparation of the presentation, and delivery of the presentation should have their names list in the PowerPoint (or other) presentation. It is up to the group to determine whether some or all group members will be involved in the presentation itself. Include a bibliography of all academic sources used in preparation of the presentation. This can be included as a slide in the presentation. See Sources for Academic Research on the Class Website for information on determining which potential sources qualify as academic or scholarly. The presentation should last between 20 and 25 minutes, and it should be followed by a period of discussion. At least five discussion questions should be prepared by the group presenting.

Final Group Presentation and Literary Analysis Paper

On Dec 13, the day reserved on the UTSA Academic Calendar for the Final Exam for this class, groups will present their Final Group Presentation. Note that class that day starts at 11:00 rather than 12:00 as it usually does, and it lasts for about two hours. The presentation will follow the same format as the other group presentations (20-25 minutes of presentation, followed by a class discussion of at least five discussion questions). The Literary Analysis Paper will cover the same topic as the Final Group Presentation. It should be between 12 and 15 pages double-spaced and include a minimum of 7 scholarly/academic sources (the Bible does not count as a source). Any literary approach may be used, and that approach should be clearly indicated in both the Final Group Presentation (including in the PowerPoint) and in the Literary Analysis Paper. The biblical passage analyzed must also be clearly indicated. One Literary Analysis Paper should be submitted per group, and it should include the names of all students who participated in its preparation.
